The Hub Coffee, a Reno landmark coffee shop that combines contemporary cool with classic comfort was a collaborative effort with White Cloud Construction in the spring of 2014. As a progressive and fastidious coffee roaster with a growing cult following, Mark Trujilio tasked us with creating a space consummate with the quality and reputation he has established for himself. As a natural result of the relationship that we have with Mark, the design progressed cooperatively and elementally. Mark’s work with the profound organic nuances of the coffee bean inspired the integration of living and organic elements into the design giving rise to the stainless steel planters for succulents growing on the face of the bar and the fractured white concrete bar facing as well as the gabion screen wall adjacent to the transaction counter.
To round out the classical feel of the shop, we fabricated a hand built custom storefront inspired by early 20th century single pane putty glazing. Little did we know the impact that this storefront would have on the clientele and community, and we have formed relationships with a number of new clients due to our work at the Hub. Its a great place for coffee to boot.
