For the Virginia Street Bridge Replacement project, Tutto Ferro answered the solicitation for artists with a vision of celebrating our region and our city and the vast diversity that we have all around us. Nevada is a land of extremes, whether its the largest nuclear crater on earth, the pristine Sierra mountains, the emptiness of the Black Rock desert or the glamour of the Las Vegas strip, this state has a character and a diversity that is hard to find elsewhere and something that we celebrate as our home state. The sculptures that Tutto Ferro is in the process of creating will showcase some of the remarkable features of our state in iconic form, inviting interpretation and contextualization for the viewer. Pyramid Lake, The Truckee River Valley, Wheeler Peak, The Sedan Crater and our own Truckee meadows will all be represented in the context of the state and in detailed sculptures created by water jet cutting layers of steel to be stacked as a 3 dimensional topographic map based on original USGS mapping files . These sculptures allow the viewer to investigate the details and shape of the stunning topography of our state, both natural and man made. Each sculpture consists of 40 to 60 layers of steel cut precisely and ordered to come to life in 6 to 8 inch tall representations. The is our latest public art project and Tutto Ferro is proud to once again be involved in art and cultural development in our community.
